The Polaris Label Manager allows staff to print spine labels from Polaris to the local printer. Because label printers are not installed on the Polaris Server, the local printer settings do not always get used when printing from the remote desktop session. A secondary piece of software, Screwdrivers needs to be installed on any local workstation that plans to print labels from Polaris. For installation instructions, see Installing ScrewDrivers for Polaris Printing.
The Label Prints, but the Appearance Isn't Right
If labels print incorrectly, try logging off of the terminal server and logging back in. If that does not fix the issue, verify the printer settings on the computer match the desired settings.
Verify Printer Settings
- From the Windows control panel, open Devices and Printers.
- Right click the label printer, select Printing Preferences.
- Ensure that the printer settings are correct. Specifically:
Joliet | Fountaindale | |
Orientation | Landscape | Portrait |
Width | 1.5 | 1 |
Height | 1 | 1.5 |
Rotate 180° | (optional) |
Occasionally, the "Darkness" field may need to be adjusted as well.
Check ScrewDrivers Settings
To open ScrewDrivers, from the Windows Start Menu, search for Client Control Panel.
In the "Printers" tab, ensure that the Zebra printer (generally "ZDesigner") is active.
In the "General" tab, ensure that "Cache to Registry" is selected. Then click Query Printers.
Log Off Polaris
- Log off of the Polaris Terminal Server and log back in.
- Test Printing
The Label Manager Does Not Open
Occasionally the workstations Label Manager log file will get corrupted which prevents the Label Manager from opening altogether. This is especially common on shared workstations.
When this happens, submit a ticket to Pinnacle staff noting the workstation (the computer's name) that this is occurring on. Pinnacle staff will delete the corrupted file from the terminal server.
