Creating Deep Links in the Catalog

Created by Matt Hammermeister, Modified on Tue, 9 Aug, 2022 at 1:55 PM by Matt Hammermeister

"Deep Links" are customized searches to specific bibliographic records in the library catalog.  For instance, a deep link can point users directly to a specific title, a specific author, or to a record set of titles.  Libraries often use deep links for marketing purposes or to provide an exact title to a patron/coworker.

TIP: A Deep Link Generator tool is available on the Pinnacle Intranet.

Manually Creating a Deep Link

All deep links begin with the root of the Polaris catalog URL:

https://pinnacle.polarislibrary.com/polaris/view.aspx?

Immediately following the base URL is the library's "CTX" value:

ctx=3.1033.0.0.1

The first number in the CTX value (in this case, "3") should be replaced with the branch's OrganizationID.

The last portion of the deep link is the search modifier, which includes options such as:

  • title
  • author
  • isbn
  • oclc (OCLC Number)
  • cn (Bibliographic Control Number)
  • brs (Bibliographic Record Set Number)

For example, to link to a bibliographic control number, the remainder of the search would be:

&cn=12345

Putting the entire search together, the URL would be:

https://pinnacle.polarislibrary.com/polaris/view.aspx?ctx=3.1033.0.0.1&cn=12345
