This article was updated in 2025 as our enriched data vendor changed to Syndetics Unbound. The article now references Syndetics, rather than ContentCafe.
The cover images that display in the Polaris PowerPAC (and Leap/Client) come through an enriched data source called Syndetics Unbound. Syndetics uses the ISBN/UPC numbers located in a record to determine the cover image that should be displayed.
Occasionally, the wrong image will display next to a title. When this happens, there are two potential options:
- Modifying the Cataloging Data
- Reporting the Issue to Syndetics
Modifying Cataloging Data in Polaris
Syndetics relies on the ISBN or UPC listed in the bibliographic record. Verify that the standardized number is correct by checking the MARC record and editing as necessary.
Reporting the Issue to Syndetics
If the issue appears to be a mistake in the Syndetics Unbound database, staff can report cover image issues to syndetics.corrections@proquest.com. When reporting the issue, be sure to identify the ISBN and the title that it should be associated with.
New: Upload Your Own Cover Image
Upload Cover Image to Syndetics
With a "Librarian Recommends" account, library staff can upload images directly to the Syndetics Unbound image repository. This helps streamline the process for updating images in the catalog.
To request a "Librarian Recommends" account, submit a ticket to Pinnacle.
Once you have a Librarian Recommends account in Syndetics,
- Log in to Librarian Recommends.
- Click Cover Upload.
- Enter the ISBN or UPC of the title. As a check, the current information and cover image will display.
- In the yellow box, upload an image from your computer or drag and drop the image file into the box.
- The cover image will go to Syndetics Staff for review before appearing in the catalog.
