General

The Illinois State Library created the Illinois Library Service Areas Map to aid library staff in determining a patron's home library. The map is interactive and will show the borders for each public library district in the state of Illinois. Pinnacle Library patrons can register for their library card at any of Pinnacle's six libraries making this a great tool to determine a patron's home library district. With a quick address search you can find out what their home library district is and get them registered quickly.

Using the Tool

Below is what the map will look like when you first click on the link above. Enter the patron's address in the search box (circled in red).

For example, if you search the following address: 150 N Ottawa St, Joliet, IL your map will look like this:

From here you can click on the small green dot (which is the location searched for on the map) and a pop up will appear with library district information. As you can see, that address is part of the Joliet Public Library.

If you wanted to get more information about the address, or look at other coverage areas, you can zoom out on the map to see the borders of each district and explore more!

Try a few example searches- your home address, a family member's address, or even a random address you know. This will help you become more comfortable with the tool.
